Week 2 of Gratton

By rogerbarr @rogerbarr · On January 1, 2013

Festive season run writeup. Zero weight gained due to mileage. I was thinking about what Daley Thompson was up to on Christmas day as I completed run 2………

Zero weight gained due to mileage. Plenty of food and drink consumed though.

Last week knocked in a lifetime record 83 miles (previous best was 74 in March 2010). This included 4 doubles and 2 x quality speed session (one being 25 x 300m at 6pm on Christmas day).

Streak extends out to around 215 and monthly average since 1st June sits on 47 (soon to be nudged over 50 by the big mileage).

This week is week 3 of Gratton. I’m following the 80-100 schedule as closely as possible -http://www.209events.com/file/253.pdf

Last week I did miss 2 of the sessions due to being sensible and not wanting to run when smoked.

The main positive I take from this last 2 weeks is the right ankle niggle has gone away and I’m running healthy. Long may that continue.

The other positive is that I’m loving the training and mentally I’m fighting fit. The near 7 month preparation for this phase is paying dividends. I’m able to absorb it would seem.

Sooooo. This 3rd week has kicked off very nicely. 16 Sun, 14 Mon, 14 Tues. Today (Tues) included 2 x Parkruns. Bushy and Kingston. Plan has me down to hit 97 miles this week so might see if we can find the 3 to hit the magic 100. But I’m still not afraid to step out of a session if I’m smoked so we’ll see how it goes. The Thursday evening 30 mins threshold into 10 x 400m has been the breaking of me. I’ve only managed the 30 + 5x 400m so far due to being in a state of exhaustion. I’ll try and pace them better this week I think.

Re. Park runs. Chuffed to run faster on the 2nd 5k for 4th at Kingston on a very muddy towpath/field run in normal run shoes.

Parkruns done at 90 and 95% effort respectively included 8 miles of running too and from. Very very happy with the pace and if this had been road I predict I could have been cruising on close to 5m30 miles which is exciting.

Next marker in sight will be Wokingham in early Feb. Hoping to PB (1.16.04) of course and it would be lovely to go very close to 1.15 but that depends what mother nature throws out that day I think.
